TITLE OF ABSTRACT
DIGITAL PEDAGOGY AND TEACHING INNOVATION: ADVANCING LEARNER-CENTRED PEDAGOGIES IN PHYSICS EDUCATION AT NIGERIA COLLEGES OF EDUCATION THROUGH DIGITAL INNOVATION
ABSTRACT CONTENT
The physics education program at the College of Education, as outlined by the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) in Nigeria, aims to deliver advanced scientific knowledge, enhance research and laboratory skills, prepare students for careers in science and technology, and foster innovation and national progress. Nevertheless, the pursuit of these commendable goals often encounters significant obstacles in developing countries like Nigeria, stemming from issues such as inadequate funding, poor infrastructure, insecurity, limited institutional support, and insufficient student-centered approaches. The emergence of digital pedagogy has greatly changed educational practices, presenting opportunities for enhancing teaching and learning of physics education. Incorporating learner-centered pedagogies into physics education promises to establish a supportive academic environment, boost student interest, create an interactive educational framework, improve academic performance, cultivate critical thinking skills, enhance the quality of scientific workforce development, encourage academic dynamism, facilitate active student participation, and address the increasing demands of learners along with the community's desire for technological expertise. Consequently, this paper examines various digital pedagogical approaches in physics education, the impact of digital innovation on student motivation, the consequent improvement in academic performance, and the benefits and challenges of digital technology in the digital age. Recognizing that digital teaching innovation offers a transformative paradigm in global education systems and creates a platform for greater potential in physics education, this paper advocates for the adoption of digital pedagogical practices by education stakeholders, intentional implementation by educators, optimization by higher education institutions, funding by the government, and institutional support by school leadership.
