Abstract
Digital pedagogy refers to the intentional use of digital tools and online strategies to enhance teaching and learning. With the global shift toward technology-driven education and the Federal Government’s push for graduate entrepreneurship, Colleges of Education are expected to innovate their teaching methods. However, the extent to which lecturers in Entrepreneurship Education integrate digital tools for teaching innovation remains underexplored in COEs.
This study examined digital pedagogy and teaching innovation among lecturers and NCE students in the Department of Entrepreneurship. The specific objectives were to: 1) identify the digital tools available for teaching entrepreneurship, 2) assess the level of lecturers’ competence in applying digital pedagogical strategies, 3) determine the effect of digital teaching innovation on students’ engagement and learning outcomes, and 4) identify challenges militating against effective integration of digital pedagogy.
The study adopted a descriptive survey design. A structured questionnaire was administered to all entrepreneurship lecturers and a sample of 150 NCE II & III students using simple random sampling. Data were analyzed using simple correlation.
Findings revealed that while basic digital tools like smartphones, WhatsApp, and PowerPoint are available, advanced tools such as LMS, simulation software, and Canva for business plan design are underutilized. There was a significant positive relationship between lecturers’ use of digital pedagogy and students’ engagement in practical entrepreneurship tasks. Major challenges identified included poor internet access, inadequate ICT training for lecturers, and erratic power supply.
The study concluded that digital pedagogy significantly enhances teaching innovation in entrepreneurship education, but its impact is limited by infrastructural and competence gaps. It was recommended that TETFUND and the College management should prioritize regular ICT training, provision of stable internet, and integration of digital tools into the NCE entrepreneurship curriculum to produce graduates who are both pedagogically sound and digitally competent.
