Abstract
The increasing propensity of integration of digital technologies into higher education has revolutionalised teaching and learning, making learner-centred pedagogies more achievable in tertiary institutions. This study investigated the assessment of learner's centre pedagogies through digital innovation technologies in tertiary institutions in South West geopolitical zone of Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. A total of 300 respondents of undergraduate students in Colleges of Education, Polythecnics and Universities were selected using a multistage sampling technique, with respondents drawn from one College of Education, Polytechnic and University from each of the six states. Data were collected using a researcher-developed questionnaire titled Assessment of Learner's Centre Pedagogies Through Digital Innovation in Tertiary Institutions (ALCPTDITI). The instrument was validated by experts in Educational Technology and Measurement and Evaluation, a Cronbach's Alpha coefficient of 0.88 established its reliability. Data were analysed using frequency counts, percentages, mean, Standard Deviation, while the Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient, and One-Way ANOVA at the 0.05 level of significance which will be used to answer the hypotheses. The findings revealed a high level of adoption of digital innovation across the selected tertiary institutions and a significant positive relationship between learner's centre pedagogies and digital innovation technologies in tertiary institutions. The study also revealed inadequate digital infrastructure, unstable electricity supply, poor internet connectivity, and limited digital competencies as major barriers to effective implementation. The study concludes that digital innovation enhances learner 's centre pedagogies, collaborative learning, self-directed learning, and academic performance. The study further recommends increased investment in digital infrastructure, constant training of learners, affordable internet access for students, and stronger institutional policies supporting learner-centred digital education.
