Track: Digital Pedagogy and Teaching Innovation
The study surveyed digital technology devices and lecturers’ effectiveness in teaching English language in colleges of education in Oyo State. A descriptive cross-sectional survey design was adopted, and the population comprised of 715 lecturers across the colleges of education in the state. Using purposive sampling method, 58 lecturers that teach English language were selected, while a self-structured questionnaire was employed for data collection. Descriptive statistics including frequency counts, percentages, mean, and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions, while Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) was used to tested the hypotheses at the 0.05 level of significance. Findings revealed that smartphones (96.6%), audio systems (79.3%), webcams/digital cameras (79.3%), computers (72.4%), and multimedia projectors (53.4%) were the most available digital technology devices, while AI-powered language learning tools (20.7%) and Smart TV sets (6.9%) were the least available. Lecturers were very effective in teaching English language (x̅= 3.18±0.52); exhibited low level of digital technology usage (x̅= 2.48 ± 0.40); and inferred constraints to digital technology device usage as very severe (x̅= 2.81±0.61). Furthermore, availability of digital technology devices (F2,55= 5.565; p= 0.001; η2= 0.175); competence in device usage (F2,55 = 8.565; p= 0.001; η2= 0.237); digital technology usage (F2,55= 7.936; p= 0.001; η2= 0.224); and constraints to digital technology devices usage (F2,55 = 6.856; p= 0.002; η2= 0.200) significantly influenced lectures’ effectiveness in teaching English language. The study therefore recommends increased provision of modern digital technologies, reliable internet facilities, and institutional technical support to enhance technology adoption and teaching effectiveness.
