Code of conduct

This Code of Conduct establishes guidelines so that constructive and productive interactions can be held on the basis of mutual trust and respect. It applies to all participants of the workshop.

1. Be mindful of treating your colleagues with respect and avoid judging, discriminating, or making unwelcome jokes or disparaging remarks based on stereotypes. Ensure that, when offered, criticism is constructive and aims to create positive discussion. Give others a chance to voice their opinion and make an effort to understand their perspective. Respect the professional, physical, and personal boundaries of colleagues.
2. Promote equity amongst colleagues by acting to empower those in more junior positions and from marginalized groups. Take initiative to eliminate particular challenges or barriers to success that colleagues may face as members of marginalized groups. Provide everyone with access to opportunities, including networking that happens in a social context. Avoid exclusionary behavior.
3. Intervene when you witness or become aware of inappropriate conduct. Speak up when colleagues are disrespectful of a group or class of people, even when members of that group are not present. Reach out to victims of harassment or other forms of mistreatment to offer support.
4. Work to challenge your own biases and assumptions about people and the sources of those assumptions. Try to get engaged to actively promote diversity and equity in science.
