Description
The origin of high-energy cosmic rays remains one of the central open questions in astroparticle physics. In recent years, new observations of Galactic cosmic rays and gamma-rays, high-energy neutrinos, and ultra-high-energy cosmic rays have provided important clues about the astrophysical environments that can accelerate hadrons to extreme energies. In this talk, I will review recent progress in the search for cosmic-ray accelerators from PeV to EeV energies. I will discuss the emerging picture of Galactic cosmic-ray sources, including supernova remnants, stellar clusters, and microquasars, as well as the prospects for identifying the main Galactic PeVatrons. I will then turn to high-energy neutrinos and what recent multimessenger observations tell us about their sources. Finally, I will discuss the transition to the ultra-high-energy regime and the latest developments in the search for the sources of ultra-high-energy cosmic rays.
