Description
Several extensions of the standard model posit the existence of slow moving, heavy particles. Among these, nuclearites and Q-balls are expected to generate black body radiation from plasma through thermal shock upon interacting with matter, making them potentially detectable by experiments like the Icecube Neutrino Observatory. The current estimate for the light yield of this process is only based on simple thermodynamic assumptions. This talk presents an update on the effort to experimentally measure the light yield of plasma in ice by inducing thermal shock by high-powered laser light.
