Description

Axions have become increasingly important candidates in searches for dark matter, due to their ability to also resolve the strong CP problem. One of the primary types of axion detectors is the haloscope, using the conversion of axions into photons in a magnetic field. The Axion Longitudinal Plasma Haloscope (ALPHA) experiment aims to search for axions with masses above 40 µeV, a range favored by recent theoretical developments but where traditional haloscopes have limited sensitivity. ALPHA is on track to perform the first phase of its axion search in 2028, and over the next few months, it will also be used to search for another dark matter candidate particle, the dark photon. Our group at Stockholm University leads the development of the analysis framework and novel statistical inference methods for ALPHA, which will be discussed in this talk.
