Matter in Action with UlTRafast OptIcal and X-ray Lasers (MATRIX) is an innovative initiative within the framework of the Technologies Program 2024 of the Community of Madrid (Spain). MATRIX will be organising the Fall School Matter in Action! on the 16th and 17th of November, a satellite event to the USTS2026 Conference. Matter in Action! is co-organized by the network LASERLAB SPAIN, AUSE and GELUR.
The goal of Matter in Action! is to provide international students and young researchers with the state-of-the-art developments in time-resolved structural science, including the underlying electronic structure changes that drive nuclear dynamics. The rapid development of new instruments and methods for ultrafast electron- and photon-based studies over the past decades and their constant improvements call for such an event.
The school will consist of Tutorial Lectures offered to the students in sessions dedicated to electron diffraction and scattering, X-ray spectroscopy, electron dynamics and high harmonic generation, non-linear extreme-ultraviolet/X-ray optics and spectroscopy, among others.
The plan is to have two days of Tutorial Lectures by experts in the field, including 5-minute presentations and poster sessions by the students. We are convinced such program will offer an ample opportunity to participants to interact with each other and provide a forum for exchanging the most recent advances in sciences, involving actors at all stages of their academic careers.
We expect that all attendees of the Fall School will attend also the USTS2026 conference in the following days 18-20 November 2026.
