BCVSPIN 2026 Conference

Dates: March 29-April 2, 2026

About BCVSPIN: BCVSPIN-2026 continues a longstanding tradition established in 1989 by Professors Abdus Salam, Jogesh Pati, Yu Lu, and Qaisar Shafi. This program was initiated to offer scientists from Bangladesh, China, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India, and Nepal a forum for engaging with leading experts on advances in particle physics, astroparticle physics, and cosmology. The program features approximately 30 invited plenary talks and forum discussions. The series has been held in Nepal (1989, 1990, 1994-97, 2023), India (1992), China (2007, 2009, 2013), Vietnam (2011), and Mexico (2014). The most recent edition took place in Kathmandu, Nepal in Dec 2024, BCVSPIN-2024 (indico page)

Program: This one-week conference will provide a broad coverage of current research in particle physics and cosmology, and include theorists as well as experimentalists. Topics include (but are not limited to): gravitational waves, black holes, dark matter, dark energy, cosmological tensions, and machine learning. The primary goal of the event is to facilitate interactions between researchers from BCVSPIN countries and the broader international community. The event is hosted by University of Colombo and is partially funded by the Bartol Research Institute at the University of Delaware, USA.

Getting to the University of Colombo

The University of Colombo is located in the heart of Colombo, Sri Lanka's commercial capital, and is easily accessible from Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB).

By air:
Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) is located approximately 35 km north of Colombo city centre in Katunayake. The journey to the University of Colombo takes about 1–2 hours, depending on traffic conditions.

Airport Express Bus: The Airport Express (Route 187) operates between the airport and Colombo Fort, with tickets costing around LKR 150–200 (approx. USD 0.50). From Colombo Fort, the university is a short tuk-tuk or bus ride away.

Airport Shuttle Train: The Airport Express train connects the airport to Colombo Fort Railway Station (approx. LKR 300–500 / USD 1–1.50, journey time around 30–40 minutes). From Colombo Fort, take a tuk-tuk or bus to the university (about 2–3 km).

Taxi: Pre-paid taxi counters are available at the arrivals hall. A ride to the University of Colombo costs approximately LKR 4,000–6,000 (USD 12–18). Ride-hailing apps such as PickMe and Uber are also available.

By train or bus:
Colombo Fort Railway Station and the Bastian Mawatha Central Bus Stand serve as the main transport hubs for intercity travel. The University of Colombo is located about 2–3 km from Colombo Fort and can be reached by local bus, tuk-tuk, or on foot.

Public transport:
Colombo's public transport includes buses and trains. Local bus fares start from LKR 20–50. Tuk-tuks and taxis are widely available. App-based services (e.g., Uber, PickMe) are recommended for convenience and transparent pricing.
