Description
RV Tauri stars and semiregular variables are among the pulsating stars whose irregular variability has been interpreted as a manifestation of nonlinear dynamical phenomena, including deterministic chaos arising from mode interactions. Evidence for such behaviour has been reported in a small number of objects based on long-term ground-based observations and, more recently, high-precision Kepler photometry. The growing availability of space-based observations opens new opportunities to investigate these phenomena in larger samples. We discuss the potential of TESS and the upcoming PLATO mission for studying nonlinear dynamics and irregular variability in AGB and post-AGB pulsators.
