Description

We report the full sub-Kelvin characterization of the BAUSCIA high-frequency gravitational-wave antenna and the current status of its pilot science run. The detector is based on cryogenic Bulk Acoustic Wave resonators coupled to SQUID amplifiers for signal readout. An end-to-end characterization of the experimental chain, from the resonators to the DAQ, shows that resonator thermal noise dominates the noise budget at temperatures down to 100 mK. The measurements also confirm proper mode thermalization and negligible SQUID backaction. Strain sensitivities of 1–10 × 10⁻²¹ Hz⁻¹ᐟ² are obtained for resonant frequencies between 5 and 20 MHz. Equipped with three resonators and synchronized to an absolute global time reference for multi-site coincidence searches, the antenna is currently acquiring data in a pilot science run. A preliminary analysis of the data collected so far will be presented, together with the current performance of the detector.
