Optical Quantum Sensors (OQS) are extremely sensitive ambient-temperature magnetometers which can be applied in axion dark matter searches using an inductor-capacitor (LC) circuit. At Los Alamos National Laboratory, we recently proposed to develop a sensitive search for ultralight axion dark matter by pushing OQS sensitivity to a world first level of 60 aT/Hz$^{1/2}$. Combining this OQS with a low-temperature LC circuit in a 2 T magnet at the University of Florida, we will develop a pathfinder experiment to demonstrate the use of OQS in searches for ultralight dark matter axions. We present an overview of our axion detection experiment and its projected experimental sensitivity. We have previously conducted a feasibility test with a large-bore magnet, a room-temperature LC circuit, and a commercial OQS module with 10 fT/Hz$^1/2$ sensitivity and also report on this work.
