Description
Over the past few decades, searches for ‘classical’ WIMPS at masses in the 10 GeV - 1 TeV regime have matured and ruled out a broad set of supersymmetric models. Along with mature concepts for reaching the neutrino floor in this mass range, significant progress has been made in understanding how we closed the mass gap between the younger set of axion experiments and the conventional particle-like dark matter searches. In this talk, I will explore what it looks like to search for dark matter in this mass gap - roughly between 1 meV and 1 eV of absorption or scattering energy - and what some of the theoretical and experimental challenges are. I will also cover recent work towards sub-eV thresholds and the new backgrounds being discovered by these pathfinding experiments.
