Description

Large particle physics collaborations offer powerful opportunities to connect fundamental research with skills development and public engagement. In this talk, I will highlight outreach and training initiatives developed at Sussex using ATLAS and DUNE to create pathways from first inspiration to advanced data science skills.

The DUNE UK exhibition has toured nationally for almost two years, including a showcase at the Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition, engaging diverse audiences with neutrino physics and broadening access to contemporary research.

Through leading ATLAS Open Data for over 10 years, we developed innovative resources that enable students to explore collider data and machine learning concepts without prior coding experience. Visualisation-based tools provide an accessible introduction, while advanced Jupyter notebook environments offer progression to authentic research workflows, supporting the next generation of data scientists.

Together, these initiatives demonstrate how collaboration infrastructure can widen participation, strengthen national data capability, and support the future particle physics workforce.
