Description
Whether scalar-tensor gravity approaches general relativity or departs from it (e.g, in the early universe) can be described using an analogy with heat dissipation in a viscous fluid. We apply this thermal analogy to cosmology. As a result, we understand why gravity can deviate from general relativity in the early universe and approaches it later in the cosmic history, as originally proposed by Damour and Nordtvedt in the 1990s.
