Description
Concept inventories like the FCI or the BEMA have been valuable tools in studying how well students understand physics concepts, mostly at the introductory level. A few have been created for more advanced topics including quantum mechanics, but work on creating a concept inventory on quantum information has started only recently.
We will describe how we are developing our concept inventory, illustrate differences from the typical process due to the unique nature of the content and learning environments, and discuss a few surprising insights. We will also provide examples for how developing an instrument like this can inform course design and the creation of meaningful learning outcomes.
