German-Cuban Summer School 2022

America/Havana
Description

In light of the 10 years of active scientific collaboration between colleagues from ICIMAF and the GU Frankfurt, we are happy to announce the German-Cuban 'Summer' school 2021, to be held on 17-21 January  2022.

The School is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service - DAAD.

Topics and lecturers:

  • Theory of Particle Physics - M. Bleicher (ITP Uni-Frankfurt/GSI/NIC Jülich/HFHF)
  • Astrophysics@FAIR - C. Sturm (GSI)
  • Experiments@FAIR - C. Blume (IKP Uni-Frankfurt)
  • Science, science communication and opportunities for foreign students in Germany - S. Vogel (Sciencebirds)
  • Hands-on sessions with exercises - C. Spieles (ITP Uni-Frankfurt)

There will be also sessions allocated for:

  • Q&A
  • Interviews
  • Evaluation and Feedback
  • Student presentations

The current version of the program is available here.

Our website will be updated continuosly as soon as the information becomes available. Please contact us for further inquiries.

The School will session in the Abdus Salam room, at the main building of ICIMAF, located in Calle 15 #551 entre C y D, Vedado, Plaza de la Revolución, CP 10400, La Habana, Cuba

The cooperation between  ICIMAF and the GU Frankfurt stands out for the mutual short-term research visits of established scientists from both sides and the organization of a bi-annual international conference series (STARS/SMFNS  2011, 2013, 2015, 2017, and 2019) that brings leading experts in the physics of strongly interacting systems and strong magnetic fields to Cuba.

Stemming from the STARS/SMFNS conferences, a number of summer schools for postdocs and young researchers with the aim of fostering the knowledge transfer to the younger Cuban researcher generation. Thus, the German-Cuban Summer school (GCSS) were held in Havana in 2016 (financed by DAAD) and in 2017. In 2018, another school was convened together with the jointly organized Symposium on Non-equilibrium Dynamics. These events continued through the years 2019 and (virtually) 2020.
