For the activities during the week we will be using Wolfram's Mathematica system for technical computing. This is a guide for downloading and installing the software. Mathematica is available for a 15 day free trial, but school participants will receive a license for extended access.
- Access https://www.wolfram.com/mathematica/ and select Try Now.
- You will be prompted to create a Wolfram ID.
- Fill the form with name, password and email.
- Once your Wolfram ID is confirmed you will be taken to a second form, fill it with name, address, answer the required questions, and agree with the license agreement.
- Select the language and press Start Your Trial.
- You should see the message Your 15-Day Mathematica Trial Has Begun, select the link to the Wolfram User Portal.
- At the User Portal, under My Products and Services click on the Mathematica Trial link.
- On the next page click on Get Downloads and select you operational system.
- If using Windows or Mac OS the Standard Download will provide you the download manager to be executed in your computer to obtain the installation file. If using Linux the Direct File Download will provide you the full software for install.
- After downloading the software, follow the installation instructions.
Once the software has been successfully installed, you will need to activate it by providing a license key. The license keys for the school will be distributed on the first day during the introductory session.
- Upon first launching Mathematica you will be provided with the Wolfram Product Activation dialog.
- Make sure your laptop is connected to the internet and select Online Activation (Recommended).
- Type your activation key* in the box and click the Activate button.
- The activation process is fully automated. Upon completion, Mathematica will launch on its won.
*Note: You will see an activation key in your Wolfram User Portal. That key corresponds to the 15 day free trial available with the download. Do not use that key to activate Mathematica for this school and save it for later. We will provide you an extended license expiring on Aug 18, 2023.
