The mission of the AI/ML Architecture Working Group is to continuously inform the AI/ML architecture of the EIC by AI readiness analysis, demonstrator projects, operational experience, and international collaboration. This will help to define the principles, architecture, infrastructure, and operational concepts required for the EIC to become the first collider designed from the outset to exploit AI/ML across its full lifecycle.

This vision will be informed by four complementary pillars:

  • AI readiness, including the data, software, metadata, simulation, and operational infrastructure needed to enable reliable and reproducible AI/ML throughout the facility.
  • Experience from demonstrators, particularly AI/ML developments on the EIC pre-accelerators and other existing facilities, identifying which approaches have been validated experimentally and what lessons they provide for the future collider.
  • International collaboration, incorporating the state of the art emerging from laboratories worldwide and ensuring that the EIC benefits from, contributes to, and helps coordinate the international AI/ML ecosystem for accelerator science.
  • Long-term architectural design, translating these experiences into a scalable, maintainable, and extensible AI/ML architecture that supports commissioning, operations, optimization, diagnostics, maintenance, and scientific discovery throughout the lifetime of the EIC.
