This lecture will outline the Tomita-Takezaki theory for physicists by a physicist. In recent years, attempts to utilize operator algebra theory have been spreading across various fields of theoretical physics. Despite its history of developing in close connection with physics, the content of operator algebra theory remains largely unfamiliar to physicists. The Tomita-Takezaki theory stands as a quintessential example of this theory, having revolutionized operator algebra. However, the Tomita-Takezaki theory is a highly advanced theory, and its physical meaning is difficult to grasp. Therefore, in this lecture, we will approach operator algebra theory through its role in the foundation of quantum theory, and then provide a clear overview of the Tomita-Takezaki theory from the perspective of integration theory.
