Description

Discussion regarding the physics and detector design for the Forward Physics Facility at the LHC.

Milind Diwan

MVD, Wenjie Wu,  Sebastian White, Ahmed Ismail, Bolotnikov, Asner, Kling, Reno, Bian, Feng, Kuzniak, Paolone, Trojanowski, Tsang,  Yichen Li, Yu Seon Jeong

MVD would like to make a list of papers and documents that people are contributing.

Will ask over email.

Wenjie showed some initial results on tau containment. Containment is quite good with neutrino energy missing.

MVD claims that the background rejection needed for extraction of nu_tau events is not too high (~factor of 40)

Jonathan questions the basis for this.  Certainly just muon tagging might be good enough to eliminate muon neutrinos. Neutral currents and electrons neutrinos remain to be rejected.  Need more simulation studies.

There are issues in using Genie for interactions above 100 GeV.

Felix will provide information on high energy Genie interactions.

Mary Hall: Has Alfonso Garcia Soto also incorporated DIS into GENIE up to high energies?

Felix Kling to Everyone (1:16 PM)
There is a new module called HEDIS (high energy DIS) in GENIE now, which should be able to do this. See https://arxiv.org/abs/2106.09381 Sec 3.7.

Marcin provided a calculation of light yield for some geometries for LAR and LKR.

The dark rates are manageable in SiPM at these temperatures.  But we need a better calculation of Kr85 rates.

If Kr85 is too high, we will need alternate ideas for triggering.

MVD showed some pictures of the R&D setup at CERN for scintillation R&D.

Marcin is talking to Filippo about R&D at CERN.

Next meeting will be December 9.
