Research activities in CMS, the High Granularity Calorimeter and NESTOR 40m
Speaker: Andreas Psallidas (National Taiwan University (TW))

One future phase that is planned for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) is referred to as High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) and  aims to record an integrated luminosity of 3000 fb^(-1). At tha era, the High Granularity Calorimeter (HGCal) is  designed to replace the existing endcap calorimeters. The HGCal is a sampling calorimeter, featuring unprecedented  transverse and longitudinal readout segmentation for both electromagnetic (CE-E) and hadronic (CE-H) compartments.
This talk focuses not only on the calibration method currently used in the performance studies but also on another method  based on the calorimeter sampling fraction that exploits the per-event measured shower depth. Also,
an imperative study on the material budget from the vertex up to the end of the HGCal is presented.
Furthermore, a search for both a new heavy charged gauge boson and a new heavy top partner that is decaying
like dilepton top pairs is shown. At the context of the higgs to gamma gamma group we explore the possibility of
simultaneously measuring vector boson fusion (VBF) and VBF-like gluon gluon fusion (ggFjj) in a dijet only channel
without allowing any information from the Untagged category. Finally, work done in the NESTOR collaboration with the Long Arm Marine Spectrophotometer (LAMS) and the Light Intensity Measuring System (LIMS) is displayed.
