Seminar on Muon Detector Development for the CMS Phase-2 Upgrade and Muon Radiography
by
Central University of Karnataka
Department of Physics
This talk will focus on the development of detectors known as Resistive Plate Chambers (RPC) widely used in particle physics experiments for tracking and triggering. The focus will be on its applications in the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at CERN - the experiment that discovered the God Particle (Higgs Boson) and in muon radiography - a technique that uses cosmic muons to image large-scale structures like volcanoes and Egyptian pyramids.
The speaker, Dr Amrutha Samalan, was a former student of the M.Sc Physics programme at CU Karnataka (Batch of 2017). She completed her PhD from the University of Ghent in Belgium and now is a Postdoc at ETH, Zurich.
