Description

Phase transitions provide a useful mechanism to produce both electroweak baryogenesis (EWBG) and gravitational waves (GW). We propose a left-right symmetric model with two Higgs doublets, a left-handed doublet $H_L$ and a right-handed doublet $H_R$, and a scalar singlet $\sigma$ under a $H_L \leftrightarrow H_R$ and $\sigma \leftrightarrow -\sigma$ symmetry as discussed by Gu. We utilize a multistep phase transition to produce EWBG and GW. At the first transition, $\sigma$ acquires a vev which results in GW being produced. At the second transition at a lower temperature, $H_R$ acquires a vev providing $W_R$ with a mass. This also produces a baryon asymmetry in the right-handed sector, which eventually is transferred to the left-handed sector. Finally, at an even lower temperature, the electroweak phase transition occurs and $H_L$ acquires a vev.
