Search for non-resonant di-Higgs production in the b anti-b tau anti-tau final state with the CMS detector 30m

Non-resonant di-Higgs production is a process predicted by the standard model of particle interactions, which gives access to the Higgs boson self-coupling and the determination of the Higgs potential. Our research aims at improving the current sensitivity exploiting events in which one of the final state Higgs bosons is significantly boosted and decays into a tau pair with subsequent hadronic decays. This topology gives rise to a characteristic signature that can be identified with the use of modern machine learning techniques. With the current sample of events collected by the CMS detector at the LHC, The sensitivity of the search can not yet directly access the standard model production cross-section, but can probe large deviations from it. After the planned upgrade of the LHC complex, the amount of data will increase by a factor 10, opening more possibilities to probe rare processes. We will conclude the talk, with a discussion of the challenge posed by this upgrade and of the preliminary results of a timing detector that is being built to face some of those challenges.
