Thermalization in ultracentral Pb+Pb collisions at the LHC

I report new evidence that the matter created in ultrarelativistic Pb+Pb collisions thermalizes. Evidence is based on a recent (2022) analysis by the ATLAS collaboration, which has measured the variance of the transverse momentum per particle as a function of the collision multiplicity. I argue that a precise measurement of the speed of sound of hot QCD can be made through similar analyses, and show a brand new preliminary result from the CMS collaboration, which is in excellent agreement with lattice calculations.
