After a brief review of the current understanding of how jets are modified by the dense, hot and coloured matter (the quark-gluon plasma) they traverse when produced in ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions, I will present some recent developments targeted at using jets as detailed probes of the properties of the quark-gluon plasma
