The current determination of the muon anomalous magnetic moment (g-2) exhibits a 3.5σ deviation between the Standard Model prediction and the experimental value. At present, the theoretical prediction is limited by the uncertainty of its hadronic contribution. The MUonE collaboration has proposed a new determination of the leading hadronic contribution to the (g-2) that is alternative to the experiments held at Fermilab and J-PARC. The new experiment will measure the differential cross-section for the elastic scattering of energetic muons on atomic electrons. The accuracy of such measurement requires the theoretical knowledge of the Next-to-Next-Leading Order (NNLO) corrections to the muon-electron scattering in QED. In this seminar, I will introduce some of the modern techniques for multiloop computations that have been applied to the NNLO virtual corrections and I will report on the present status of the calculation.
