Magnetic Mixing and Gliding in the Early Universe

Description

In this talk I will present a new regime for the cosmological evolution of axions and dark photons. It takes place in theories in which axions and dark photons mix in the presence of primordial magnetic fields, and leads to striking changes in their evolution. For large magnetic mixing the natural oscillation frequency of the fields is parametrically suppressed, extending the period in which the fields are frozen to their initial value. Once the fields start oscillating the effect of Hubble friction is reduced and therefore their energy density dilutes more slowly than expected. This magnetic mixing can also lead to very efficient conversion of axions into dark photons, providing a new production mechanism for dark photon dark matter.
