A permanent non-zero electric dipole moment of the free neutron (nEDM) violates CP-symmetry. Beyond Standard Model theories predict nEDMs very close to the current upper limit of 3·10$^{-26}\,e$·cm. Those predictions result from CP-violating processes, which in turn can be related to the matter-antimatter asymmetry observed in our universe. Thus the search for an nEDM contributes to...

The Japanese-Canadian Ultracold Neutron (UCN) Source is a new facility under
construction at TRIUMF. The primary physics goal of this facility is a world-leading measurement of the neutron electric dipole moment. In order to achieve this goal, we require the creation of the world's highest UCN density; this is turn requires a high-power spallation target producing neutrons.

    Over the last...

Ultracold neutrons (UCN) are extremely cold neutrons with energies below ~ 300 neV and can be confined in a material vessel. Toward the neutron fundamental physics experiments like a neutron electric dipole moment (nEDM) measurement, we developed a new intense UCN source using superfluid helium (He-II) at the Research Center for Nuclear Physics (RCNP), in Japan. In He-II, cold neutrons are...

Motivated by a set of compelling cosmological and astrophysical observations giving evidence for the existence of dark matter, the Super Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (SuperCDMS) experiment aims to keep pushing the sensitivity for interactions of Weakly Interacting Massive Particles (WIMPs), one of the most plausible dark matter candidates, and directly detect them with an array of cryogenic...

Many of the outstanding questions in astroparticle and subatomic physics today require the ultra-quiet environment provided by deep underground research facilities. SNOLAB is one such facility, based at a depth of 2km in the Vale Creighton mine near Sudbury, Ontario. In this environment, cosmic radiation induced backgrounds are minimized to levels allowing the operation of sophisticated...
