I will recount some vignettes from the life, work, and engagements of the late John David Jackson—Western Ontario undergraduate, McGill faculty member, professor emeritus at the University of California, Berkeley— whose magisterial textbook Classical Electrodynamics has shaped graduate education for more than a half century.
