Alice Porter: 3D Diamond Detectors for Particle Physics and Dosimetry

The properties of diamonds make them an attractive candidate for radiation hard detector technology. Relative to a coplanar structure, 3D design decouples the charge collecting electrode separation from the thickness of the substrate. This concept can be used to increase the tolerance to radiation damage. In diamond, femto-second laser processing can be used to directly inscribe the 3D architecture inside the crystal. In this talk, I will discuss the developments in processing and design of the state-of-the-art 3D diamond detectors as well as their application to high energy physics (ATLAS BCM’) and radiotherapy.
