Savannah Clawson: Photon fusion in high pileup at ATLAS: Now and in the future
https://zoom.us/j/97041428849
Photon-photon fusion is a rare process at the LHC. It is particularly interesting as a remarkably clean interaction with little (if any) remnant activity from the interacting particles. In this talk, the current status of photon fusion measurements in proton-proton collisions at the ATLAS detector are presented, highlighting the observation of photon-induced WW production. Another exciting possibility in photon fusion analyses is the ability to reconstruct intact protons in the final state. This is demonstrated in the observation and measurement of dilepton pairs associated with protons reconstructed in the ATLAS Forward Proton (AFP) spectrometer. Finally, the prospects of future photon fusion analyses at the high-luminosity LHC are discussed.
