Alex Keshavarzi: First Results From The Muon g-2 Experiment
https://zoom.us/j/304578256
The Muon g-2 Experiment at Fermilab recently reported its first result for the measured value of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, which confirms the longstanding discrepancy with the theoretical Standard Model (SM) prediction. With this new measurement (which boats major improvements on its predecessor experiment), this deviation now stands at a significance of 4.2 standard deviations, providing a strong indication of the existence of new physics beyond the SM in the flavour sector. As part of this result, the SM prediction of the Muon g-2, in particular the hadronic contributions, have been re-evaluated in detail by the Muon g-2 Theory Initiative and have resulted in the first community-approved, consensus value of this quantity to be compared with experiment. I will describe the details, status and updates of both the Fermilab measurement and SM calculation, and discuss plans for the future of the Muon g-2.
