Description

Higgs boson pair production (HH) provides direct access to the Higgs self-coupling and a crucial test of the Higgs potential. Its importance extends beyond observing a rare process: precise measurements can probe new Higgs interactions and, under well-defined theoretical assumptions, constrain scenarios for the evolution of the early Universe. This seminar will explore the physics motivation for measuring HH, and the opportunities and challenges in the leading channels, with particular emphasis on (HH\to b\bar{b}\gamma\gamma). I will then discuss prospects at the High-Luminosity LHC, drawing on the ATLAS and CMS projections prepared for the European Strategy for Particle Physics. The outlook will highlight how advances in analysis and detector performance—including the ultra-light ladder concept for the CMS pixel detector—can strengthen the path to HH observation and push the precision of the self-coupling measurement further.
