We investigate the interplay between non-trivial band topology and strong electronic correlations in a two-leg ladder model with a p-wave-like hybridization between the legs. In the non-interacting limit, the model realizes a symmetry-protected topological phase and exhibits three insulating regions, denoted A, B, and C, characterized by free-fermion winding numbers 0, −1, and −2,...

Exceptional points (EPs), at which two or more eigenvalues and eigenvectors coalesce, are ubiquitous and unique features of non-Hermitian (NH) systems. Second-order EPs (EP2s) are by far the most studied due to their abundance, requiring only the tuning of two real parameters, which is less than the three parameters needed to generically find ordinary Hermitian eigenvalue degeneracies....

Magnetic impurities in s-wave superconductors lead to spin-polarized Yu-Shiba-Rusinov (YSR) in-gap states. Chains of magnetic impurities offer one of the most viable routes for the realization of Majorana bound states, which hold promise for topological quantum computing. However, this ambitious goal looks distant, since no quantum coherent degrees of freedom have yet been identified in these...
