Description

The journey of women in physics in India reflects both individual achievements and the changing landscape of science and society. The pioneering journey of Bibha Chowdhuri, one of India’s early women physicists, an extraordinary scientist, will provide a glimpse into the experiences of women entering physics in an earlier era. This will be followed by an overview of the changing landscape of women in Indian physics. A recent survey of Indian women physicists will be discussed, highlighting their career trajectories, representation and experiences across different aspects of their careers. The talk will also examine some of the barriers that continue to influence participation and progression in physics. Finally, the talk will reflect on the steps needed to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for women in physics in India.
