Description

We investigate white dwarf equilibrium configurations within a conservative
formulation of $f(R,T)$ gravity. We consider the linear model
$f(R,T)=R+2\chi T$, where $\chi$ is the matter--geometry coupling parameter.
The modified field equations are recast in terms of an effective
energy--momentum tensor, with effective energy density and pressure defined
such that the conservation law follows from the Bianchi identities.
We consider two different prescriptions for the matter Lagrangian,
$\mathcal{L}_m=p$ and $\mathcal{L}_m=\rho$, and investigate the corresponding
effective quantities and stellar structure equations. This framework allows
us to analyze how the choice of the matter Lagrangian and the coupling
parameter $\chi$ affect white dwarf equilibrium configurations, with
particular emphasis on possible modifications of the mass--radius relation
and the limiting mass with respect to General Relativity.
