Description

The talk will give an overview of an multithreaded (multiple CPU cores), physics framework FastFrames, used by the ATLAS collaboration. The goal of FastFrames is to enable analysis teams to efficiently scale their analysis specific code to multiple CPU cores, thus significantly speeding up physics analysis timescale by reducing computational time.

The talk will describe key problems that FastFrames package was designed to solve and our solutions to these problem. It will also describe some technical challenges that we faced during the development/maintenance process and what lessons have been learnt from these.

The talk is not supposed to be a summary of a FastFrames documentation or a tutorial. It should serve as an overview of how it is built, what technologies are used and the challenges that we faced during its development and maintenance. It aims to provide a relevant information for people who might be interested in building similar frameworks (solving similar problems) in another collaborations and groups.
