This seminar provides a brief introduction to the Standard Model Effective Field Theory (SMEFT) as a framework for parameterising heavy new-physics effects. After reviewing the basic assumptions underlying SMEFT and its role in collider phenomenology, I will discuss selected topics in higher-order and higher-dimensional effects. In particular, I will address the impact of renormalisation-group evolution, electroweak Sudakov logarithms, and dimension-8 contributions–highlighting their interplay with the leading dimension-6 description– and their importance for robust SMEFT predictions.
