Contents to be covered: introductions to high energy physics and astroparticle physics, working principle of particle detection and measurements, computing skills and data analysis, neutrino physics and detections, cosmic ray physics and detections, cultural exchange programs.
Scope and mission of the summer school:
What are the fundamental interactions and structures? How did our Universe form and evolve? What is the origin of cosmic rays? What is Dark Matter? We are curious about answers in Nature. This brings us to the area of high-energy physics and astrophysics.
The Large High Altitude Air Shower Observatory (LHAASO) project, one of China's major national scientific and technological infrastructure facilities, focuses on cosmic ray observation and research. The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is a major hub for large-scale scientific facilities, including the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), China Spallation Neutron Source (CSNS), High Intensity Heavy-ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF), and China initiative Accelerator Driven sub-critical System for nuclear fuel transmutation (CiADS).
As a partner country under the Belt and Road Initiative, Thailand has many renowned universities and research institutes participating in large-scale scientific projects. As a tradition for student exchanges and research collaboration, Sun Yat-sen University at Guangzhou in China will host the international summer school on high energy physics and astrophysics in 2026. The summer school is going to foster the cultural exchange, raise a new generation of young scholars and strengthen the cooperation between Thailand and China. We wish to advance the development of fundamental science and the international level of high education between the two countries.
