Description

In recent years, quantum field theory (QFT)-inspired descriptions of the two-body problem in gravity have advanced the state of the art in gravitational-wave physics computation. In this talk, I will revisit some of the fundamentals of the on-shell scattering amplitude programme for binary black holes, with a particular focus on spinning effects. I will describe black hole scattering amplitudes using the Post-Minkowskian expansion within a heavy-particle effective field theory. Finally, I will demonstrate how to incorporate non-conservative effects, such as absorption, using a QFT description.
