Description

We present predictions for top quark pair production at the LHC in the threshold region, including quasi-bound-state effects associated with Coulomb interactions within the framework of NRQCD. We focus on the invariant mass distribution of the produced top quark pair, incorporating NLL soft-gluon threshold resummation.
A detailed study of the theoretical uncertainties affecting these predictions is presented. We consider variations in the top quark mass and width, the strong coupling $\alpha_s$, renormalization and factorization scales, and parton distribution functions, as well as uncertainties associated with the color-singlet and color-octet Green’s functions describing quasi-bound state formation. These uncertainties are compared with those from standard fixed-order QCD predictions, and implications for analyses by ATLAS and CMS are discussed.
