Seminars

From Scattering Amplitudes to General Relativity and back

by Dr Stavros Mougiakakos (LUTH, Meudon, France)

Europe/Athens
Description

In the last decade, renewed interest has emerged for the analytic treatment of the two-body problem in gravity. This is mainly due to the Gravitational Wave observations from LIGO, Virgo and the upcoming Observatories in the next years, which give us an unprecedented opportunity to test our current understanding of gravity. In this seminar, I will discuss an approach towards the solution of the problem, inspired by particle physics and the use of QFT ideas and methods, the comparison with more traditional methods and its relevance for the future observations. I will present the general framework of this approach, the current state of the art and the main bottlenecks of further progress. Furthermore, I will present a recent attempt based on resummation, going beyond the current approaches, and discuss its future directions.
