Description
We study the growth of axion perturbations during a period of early matter domination. Our findings show that the coupling of the time-varying axion mass with the radiation bath leads to a significant enhancement of the perturbation, reaching non-linearity even before reheating ends in some parameter space. We comment on the possibility of forming axion miniclusters in the pre-inflationary scenario and possibly also axion stars.
