Diffusion Model for SU(2) Lattice Gauge Theory

Abstract:
We present the first application of diffusion models to non-Abelian
lattice gauge theory, specifically two-dimensional SU(2) pure gauge
theory with the Wilson action. Our approach extends recent work on U(1)
gauge theories by properly handling the SU(2) manifold structure through
a quaternion parameterization. The model is trained on configurations
generated via Hybrid Monte Carlo at a fixed coupling $\beta_0$ and
lattice size, yet demonstrates remarkable generalization capabilities to
systems with different $\beta$ and lattice extents. We validate our
approach by comparing the average plaquette and Wilson action against
both Hybrid Monte Carlo results and exact analytical predictions,
finding good agreement across a wide range of couplings and lattice
sizes.
