Conference venue

Leiden University has an important place in the history of physics and cosmology: Lorentz, Ehrenfest and de Sitter were professors here, Einstein was a frequent visitor and their discussions marked the start of Cosmology as a science. Other scientific highlights include the Leiden Jar, Snell’s law, the Zeeman effect, the discovery of spin (Uhlenbeck and Goudsmit), of superconductivity (Kamerlingh-Onnes), of the rotation of the Galaxy (Oort) and of the 21cm Hydrogen line of radioastronomy (van der Hulst). This rich scientific history is celebrated in the Boerhaave and other museums as well as in the streets of the city of Leiden (Wall Formulas)
Travel
The most convenient airport for international arrivals is Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS).
From Schiphol, the easiest way to reach Leiden Central Station is by direct train. Trains depart frequently (approx. every 10 minutes) and the journey is quick, taking only about 15-20 minutes.
Once you arrive in Leiden, the city center and the university campus are compact and highly accessible. The conference venue is within walking distance of the station, but there are also regular buses, or the option to rent a bicycle.
Accommodation
Leiden has several hotels within 20’ walking distance (130-160 euro/night but prices could go up depending on the dates of a Formula 1 event in Zandvoort). We are working to reduce the cost for students. There is extra capacity in the nearby city of den Haag (10’ by train)
