Abstruct
Topological quantum field theory (TQFT) is a class of field theories that has been successfully formulated in rigorous mathematical terms and describes physics independent of the spacetime metric. In particular, I will give an overview of 2+1-dimensional TQFTs constructed from the Reshetikhin–Turaev invariants.
However, a theory with time-reversal symmetry is equivalent to a theory defined on non-orientable spacetimes. While such theories are known to exhibit rich mathematical and physical structures, a complete mathematical formulation has not yet been achieved.
In this talk, I will review the current understanding and future prospects of time-reversal-symmetric TQFTs, incorporating some of my own research results.
