Dr. Alva-Sánchez is a researcher member of the Biomedical Imaging Laboratory at the Institute of Physics, UNAM since 2014. He works in the development and optimization of radiation detectors for medical imaging applications, particularly in positron emission tomography (PET) and positron emission mammography (PEM). He is interested in the physical processes that affect image quality, like positron range effects in PET/CT and PET/MR scanners, and has contributed to the understanding and uses of the intrinsic radiation of scintillation crystals that are part of PET detectors.
